Like most people, I studied Darwin’s Theory of Evolution as a possible explanation for the world we have today.

A theory that states that all living things come from a common ancestor, and over time through Natural Selection have evolved into the various species of plants and animals that exist today.  Natural selection is the concept that species acquire variations over time, and the variations that are most conducive to survive are past on from one generation to another.  Species evolve over time to be best suited to their environment.

Another version of this theory is the survival of the fittest, which is sometime misinterpreted to mean fittest in a physical sense – most attraction, fastest, healthiest.

In this theory, fittest actually means best adapted to their environment, rather than physical fitness or health.

While I respect what the theory has enabled us to understand about our biological history so far, I simply do not see any trace of it in the modern world.  I see no evidence of it at work in the human fertility.  The couples I know that struggle with fertility, are the most nurturing, loving, kind, amazing humans.  They’re health conscious, smart, and successful.  Not to take anything away from the great parents I also know who easily fell pregnant, but it takes a special kind of emotionally stability, tenacity, and desire to approach fertility treatment of any kind.

Surely these are the traits needed for optimal survival in the generations to come? They certainly are advantageous to take care of this planet of ours.

Where’s Darwin when I need to ask him questions?
